Chaney, Atkins Win Gator Bassmasters Event on St. John’s River

On November 9th, 18 teams turned out to compete in the Gator Bassmasters Sunday Open Series event held on the St. John’s River. The event, held by the University of Florida Gator Bassmasters, helps raise funds for the UF Bass Fishing Team. The funds are used to assist the collegiate anglers in their travels during the College Fishing tours held by B.A.S.S. and FLW, respectively.

“The fishing was pretty tough for the majority of the field, but the top guys came in with really impressive bags,” stated James Altmann, Secretary of the UF Bass Fishing Team.

1st place went to John Chaney and Justin Atkins for their impressive 24.77-lb. bag.

Mark Blevins and Mike Strange earned a 2nd place finish with their 22.34-lb. limit.

Donnie Hewett and Frank Streeter took 3rd place with 19.55 lbs.

The next event of the Gator Bassmasters Sunday Open Series is scheduled for this Sunday, November 23rd at Lake Sampson and Rowell. More information on the event can be found on the Event Calendar.
