Cuervo ends season with Classic title

Most tournament anglers enjoy knowing well enough in advance where they will be competing for their next club tournament, let alone the end of season championship. Having the opportunity to practice and plan accordingly is part of many anglers’ routine. But this is something that members of Lakeland Bassmasters fail to have the luxury of when it comes to the year end classic. Echoing Ray Scott’s first ever Bassmaster Classic, the Lakeland Bassmasters announce the location of their end of season championship at noon, the day prior to the event. This helps in leveling the field of competition. For 2015, the Lakeland Bassmasters announced that Lake Okeechobee would be the site of their end of season club classic.

The single day event had 37 anglers, consisting of Boaters and Co-anglers, competing for a classic victory. The Big O didn’t produce the heavy stringers of bass the lake is known for and capable of, but Larry Cuervo was able to put the right fish in the boat to secure the classic title. Cuervo weighed a five-bass limit totaling 13.36 pounds to win the event. He anchored his bag with the day’s Big Bass, a 7.21-pound kicker.

Andrew Beeman finished closely in second place with a 13.29-pound, five-bass limit. A 6.78-pound kicker anchored Beeman’s bag. Mike Nicknadarvich finished the day in third place with 12.71 pounds, followed by Raymond Trudeau in fourth place with 10.10 pounds, and Richard Finley in fifth place with 9.42 pounds.

Prior to the final event of the season, the Anglers of the Year were crowned. It was a close race throughout the season, but Lee Sisson was named the Angler of the Year for 2015. Sisson beat out Luke Ferguson, and 2014 Angler of the Year Levi Brown, in his run for the title.

The Co-angler of the Year race was won by Shane Kuykendall. Mitch Campbell finished in second, followed by Rick Olson and Cecil Hock, who tied for third place.
