Seeing RED!

The third event of the Jacksonville 1 Man Redfish Series was held on Saturday March 16 – this catch and release format challenged anglers to catch a limit of 2 legal redfish using artificial lures only.

Neptune Beach’s Bob Morris weighed in the largest limit in the tour’s history with an aggregate weight of 13.91 lbs. Brisk west winds and clear skies led to many stories of local pros finding schools of reds that were unwilling to eat.

Morris took advantage of the clear skies and water to sight fish the winning limit using a camo colored Slayer SSB plastic rigged on a weedless hook. “I’ve been waiting for some sunny tournament conditions for a while – we haven’t had good sight fishing weather in a long time so it was fun to see them and get them to eat!” He poled himself around flats north of Sister’s Creek and attributed his success to his new T. Allen microwave rod which allowed for maximum casting distance when rigged with the aerodynamic SSB plastic. “The first couple of schools I ran across were very spoooky so super long and accurate casts from the poling platform were necessary to get bites,” he said.
