Keyso finds Keys to Success on Okeechobee

Fitzgerald Rods Pro Staffer Mikey Keyso of North Port, Florida bested the full field of 201 boaters to win the Walmart BFL Gator Division season opener out of Lake Okeechobee. His 5 bass limit weighing 24 pounds, 14 ounces was enough to net him $6,000 for the victory.

His key to success was flipping a Gambler BB Cricket with a 1-1/2 ounce weight through matted hyacinths.

“I had it figured out, everywhere I fished. There had to be dead hyacinths and green hyacinths pushed together and that’s where the big girls were at.”

Richard Held of Lake Worth, Florida brought 5 bass to the scales weighing 22 pounds 5 ounces, enough to net him $3,000 and 2nd place.

3rd place went to Timothy Feller of Coral Springs, Florida. His five bass weighing 21 pounds, 9 ounces put $2,000 in his pocket, as well as an extra $300 for the Evinrude Bonus.

Danny Shelton of Davie, Florida took 4th place and $1,400 with a five bass limit weighing 20 pounds, 3 ounces.

Rounding out the top 5 was Jeff Ledroux of Tamarac, Florida. His five bass limit weighing 19 pounds, 14 ounces won him $1,200.

Donny Bass took home the day’s Big Bass Honors. His 9 pound, 5 ounce lunker landed Bass $1,000.

 

 

Luke Campbell of Fort Lauderdale, Florida topped the co-angler field  weighing in a 5 bass, 21 pound, 3 ounce limit. He won $3,000 by throwing a Snag Proof frog and Gambler Big EZ.

Finishing 2nd was Derek Petruzelli of Orlando, Florida. He weighed in a 5 bass limit totaling 2o pounds, 3 ounces. His winnings totaled $1,500.

Finishing 3rd was Brad McCullough of Ocala, Florida. His five bass, 15 pound, 10 ounce limit netted him $1,000.

Finishing 4th was Skip Reed of Coral Springs, Florida. His five bass, 15 pound, 8 ounce limit netted him $700.

Rounding out the top 5 was Joe Edwards Jr. of Orlando, Florida. His five bass, 15 pound, 5 ounce limit netted him $600.

 

Petruzelli and David Darby split Big Bass Honors on the co-angler side, each weighing in a 6 pound, 13 ounce bass. Their Big Bass landed them $250 each.
