Lakeland Junior Bassmasters Stampede into 2016

The Lakeland Junior Bassmasters stampeded their way into a new season as they kicked off their first event at Lake Kissimmee on January 9th. The event dubbed Stone’s Stampede drew a field of 59 young anglers that spanned two age groups.

Stanley Flesher topped the 15-18 year old division with an 11.19-pound bag. This was Flesher’s first event competing in the older age bracket, after moving up from the 11-14 year old division. He won the 2015 Angler of the Year title in the younger division, edging out Bryce Goff by three-tenths of a pound.

Jonathan North finished his first tournament of the season in second place with 9.68 pounds. Roger Weigel, Jr., the 2015 Angler of the Year and Classic winner in the older division, finished in third place with 8.97 pounds.

Rounding out the Top 5 in the 15-18 year old division was Wesley Womack in fourth place with 8.14 pounds, followed by Austin Stillion in fifth place with 7.92 pounds. The bulk of Stillion’s bag came from the 6.58-pound kicker that won the division’s Big Bass award.

Sammy Acree finished off 2015 with a Classic victory in the 11-14 year old division, and he kept things rolling into 2016. Acree weighed a 9.89-pound bag on Saturday to take a win for the younger division.

Garrett Thomas weighed 8.06 pounds to finish in second place. Thomas anchored his bag with the division’s Big Bass, a 3.34-pound kicker. Trenton Bennett finished in third place with 7.54 pounds, followed by Fisher Cusic in fourth place with 6.32 pounds, and Aaron Lomneck in fifth place with 5.71 pounds.

The Lakeland Junior Bassmasters travel next to Lake Parker on February 6th for the Fun Bike Bash. More information can be found at www.lakelandjuniorbassmasters.com.
