Lucas, Stafford Win 1st UCF Qualifier

The 2014 fall semester has begun and with that comes the start of a new season of College Fishing. The UCF Reel Knights held the 1st qualifying event of their season on Lake Monroe, Saturday September 13th.

On a day when the fishing was tough, and the bites were few, Kevin Lucas and Kyle Stafford would surpass the other competitors en route to victory. The team only had 7 bites throughout the day, but they were the right ones. Lucas and Stafford weighed a 15.38-lb., 5 bass limit to win the event. Anchoring their bag was a 7.50-lb. kicker they caught while flipping thick grass. The rest of their fish ate Gambler’s EZ Swimmer and Super Stud.

Sandy Teaf and Steven Barker finished in 2nd place, weighing a 12.49-lb. bag.

Justin Brown and Scotty Swatscheno rounded out the Top 3, weighing a 10.14-lb. sack.

Here are the full results from the event:

1st: Kevin Lucas & Kyle Stafford – 15.38 lbs.

2nd: Sandy Teaf & Steven Barker – 12.49 lbs.

3rd: Justin Brown & Scotty Swatscheno  – 10.14 lbs.

Teams fishing the qualifying events are vying for a chance to represent UCF at one of the FLW College Fishing events. The UCF Reel Knights will be holding 2 more qualifiers, one on Lake Kissimmee October 11th, and one on the Butler Chain November 15th.

The highest finishing team after the 3 events will get to choose the lake in which they will represent UCF.

The club will also be holding an open tournament on October 25th on Lake Toho. This event will help raise funds to help the full time students with travel expenses as they fish events in both B.A.S.S. and FLW affiliated programs across the country. More information on this event can be found on the Event Calendar.
