McDonald Sweeps IFA Kayak West Coast

The IFA Kayak Fishing Tour presented by Hobie held the 2nd and final event of the 2014 season in its West Coast division on Sunday September 28th, 2014. 41 anglers set out to fish the waters around Sarasota, hunting for a combination of the one redfish and one trout that would put them above the rest of the field.

Mike McDonald, who won the 1st event earlier this year out of Punta Gorda, topped the leaderboard once again. McDonald caught a 29-inch redfish and a 21-inch trout, giving him a winning total of 50.00 inches. With 1st place and contingency prizes, McDonald won a total of $2,975.00. He also won the title of Angler of the Year for the Florida West Coast division. For that, he will receive paid entries into events for the 2015 season.

Rusty Driver, who finished in 2nd at the Punta Gorda event, duplicated that spot in the standings in Sarasota. He caught a 28.5-inch redfish and a 20-inch trout, giving Driver a 48.50-inch total. For 2nd place, he won $1,000.00.

Kasey Arrowsmith rounded out the Top 3, catching a 27.25-inch redfish and a 19.00-inch trout. He won a total of $600.00, with contingency prizes, for his 46.25-inch score.

The standings show that Jared Tetreault tied with Arrowsmith for 3rd place based on total score. However, Rule 12 states: “In the event of a tie the entry checked in earliest will be declared the winner.”

This event was the final qualifying event for the IFA Kayak Tour, prior to the Championship, October 16th-18th, 2014. Anglers, who qualified for the event being held in Houma, LA will compete against anglers from Florida, South Carolina, Texas, and Louisiana divisions.
