Renshaw tops Bay Area field

The Bay Area Bassmasters opened their 2016 season on January 9th at the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes, where 40 teams of anglers launched into the club’s 14th season.

Brian Henshaw competed without a partner for the day, but the disadvantage of not having another line in the water wouldn’t matter. Henshaw boated a 19.37-pound, five-bass limit to best the 39 other teams, and take the early lead in the points race.

Ron Herbert, Jr. and Paul Macchia were Renshaw’s closest competitors. The duo weighed a 19.09-pound, five-bass limit to finish in second place. They also won the event’s Big Bass award with a bass just shy of TrophyCatch status, a 7.94-pound kicker.

Lewis Roberson and Calvin Boyette finished the day in third place, weighing a 14.44-pound bag. Clint Kummelman and Matthew Bender weighed 14.30 pounds to finish in fourth place, followed by Keith Katrein and Dalton Katrein in fifth place with 14.29 pounds.

The club meets on February 9th at RJ’s Wings and Things in Tampa, and will travel next to Lake Istokpoga on February 13th. For more information, visit www.bayareabassmasters.com.
