Simmons earns victory in second career FLW event

176 co-anglers competed from the back deck of the 176 boat field during the 3rd Walmart Bass Fishing League event for the Gator Division at Lake Toho on Saturday, March 5th. One of those 176 co-anglers was Rodney Simmons, who is competing in his first season with FLW at any level of competition.

This event was actually only the second tournament Simmons has fished on record with FLW. He made it count while competing from the back deck of Kenneth Harris’ boat. Simmons boated a 19-pound, 7-ounce five-bass limit which he brought to the scales at Kissimmee Lakefront Park. That bag would prove to best the rest of the co-angler field with an almost 3-pound margin of victory.

Delfin Pernas finished the day in second place with a 16-pound, 15-ounce five-bass limit. James Brown finished in third place with 15 pounds, 13 ounces. Brown was followed by Matthew Wolfe, Jr. in fourth place with 15 pounds, 12 ounces and Charles Tucker in fifth place with 14 pounds, 5 ounces.

Tucker anchored his bag with the Big Bass of the co-angler division, a 9-pound, 8-ounce TrophyCatch.

The Walmart BFL Gator Division heads back down to Okeechobee on April 23rd for the fourth event of the season.
