The UCF Reel Knights held their 3rd and final qualifying event on the Butler Chain of Lakes on November 15th. The qualifying events have been held by the club to determine which team of anglers will get to represent UCF during one of the three FLW College Fishing events in 2015.

Sandy Teaf and Steven Barker won the event with a 15.63-lb., 5 bass limit.

“We caught all of our best 5 on underspins in submerged pepper grass in 8-14 ft. of water,” Teaf explained. “Our biggest fish came first thing in the morning. But we caught fish all day, with another good fish at the end of the day.”

Their bait of choice was a Gambler Baits Meano paired with Gambler’s Little EZ as a trailer. To help increase their number of bites, they threw the rig on 12-pound fluorocarbon line.

Hunter McKamey and Kyle Oliver finished in 2nd place for the day with a 12.65-lb. bag.

“We caught all our fish throwing a Gambler EZ Swimmer in Natural Shad color,” McKamey stated. “It was a tough day.”

Kevin Lucas and Kyle Stafford rounded out the Top 3 with a 12.50-lb. bag.

“We caught the majority of our fish throwing a carolina rig around deep holes,” stated Stafford. “Most of the fish we caught came in depths of 25 feet.”

Lucas, Stafford Earn 1st Pick

The collegiate anglers have been going head to head amongst one another, hoping to earn one of the three spots in the FLW College Fishing tour for 2015. FLW College Fishing only allows each school to be represented by one team per event. The UCF Reel Knights decided the best way to determine who would be representing their school would be via a points system through a series of qualifying events. The team with the most points after the 3 qualifiers would get 1st choice at the FLW event they wished to represent UCF at.

Kevin Lucas and Kyle Stafford won the 1st qualifier on Lake Monroe, giving them the early lead in points. With a 2nd place finish at Kissimmee, and a 3rd place finish at Butler, they would become the points champions. They will receive 1st choice for the Southeastern division events between Lake Seminole, Lake Guntersville, and Lake Hartwell.

Hunter McKamey and Kyle Oliver tied with Sandy Teaf and Steven Barker for 2nd place in the points race. They will get to decide, from the remaining 2 lakes, on who will represent UCF at those lakes.
