Brown, Armour Best Crackerboys Field

For the past 40 years, the Crackerboys Bass Club has held tournaments on waters throughout the state of Florida. On August 23rd, the club held the 8th event of their 2014 season. The tournament hosted 64 teams who arrived at Camp Mack on Lake Kissimmee, ready to battle the heat.

The team of Steve “Boogie” Brown and John Armour bested 126 other anglers on a tough August Saturday. They brought a 5 bass limit to the scales, totaling 19.96 lbs. A 5.83-lb kicker anchored their bag.

“On the first 10 casts, we had three 5-pounders in the boat,” stated Brown. The team focused on fishing sparse, submerged hydrilla on inside grass lines on Lake Kissimmee. Brown and Armour threw Strike King’s Sexy Dawg on a Denali Rods 7’4” Multi-Purpose rod, paired with a high speed Quantum reel. Once they stopped getting bites on top, they switched to a Yank ‘Em Jig’s Swim Jig using the same setup. At around 10:00, Brown said he lost a fish he estimated to be in the 8-pound range. They never had another bite the rest of the day.

John Stahl and Calvin Boyette finished in 2nd place. An 8.00-lb. lunker anchored their 19.51-lb., 5 bass limit.

“We caught our fish flipping grass lines on Lake Kissimmee using a Culprit Incredi-Craw, and throwing a swim jig,” stated Stahl. “It was hard to get another bite after 10:30.”

Duane Anderson and Robert Bishop finished in 3rd place with a 19.50-lb., 5 bass limit. An 8.87-lb. lunker anchored their bag and won the team the 2nd Big Bass Award.

The father-son team of Doug and Tyler Chance finished in 4th place with a 19.11-lb., 5 bass limit. An 8.37-lb. lunker anchored their limit.

Chad Faunda and Bobby Crouse rounded out the Top 5 with an 18.91-lb., 5 bass limit. Anchoring their catch was a 10.75-lb. Kissimmee Chain monster. That fish netted them the Big Bass Award for the tournament.

The next event for the Crackerboys Bass Club is scheduled for September 27th on Lake Istokpoga. To fish this event, you must be a member, and must have fished in one of the 1st two events of the season. More information on the September event can be found on our Event Calendar.
