Foster crushes monster bag at Harris

When it comes to tournament bass fishing, there are two thoughts that run across an angler’s mind: winning the event, and catching a ten-pounder. The day can be that much sweeter if you are able to accomplish both. Chad Foster was able to relish that feeling when he won the Toho Marine Elite One Man Tour event at the Harris Chain of Lakes on June 13th.

Foster, who won both of the tour’s Angler of the Year and Classic titles last season, had a day in which he says luck was on his side. Against the 29-boat field, Foster clobbered a 32.50-pound, five-bass limit. His bag included two, yes two, bass over ten pounds and one over eight pounds.

Foster started his day throwing a Stanley Ribbit soft plastic frog around cover in Lake Griffin.

“I hooked the first ten[-pounder] right away,” stated Foster. This fish didn’t annihilate the bait according to Foster, but rather just slurped the bait down. “I ended up catching a couple of two-pounders in the same area.”

Once the sun made its climb above the horizon, he switched tactics.

“I picked up a flipping stick and fished all the nasty, thick stuff,” Foster added. “I was very fortunate to get two more big bites throughout the day. It was just one of those days.”

Foster flipped a Reaction Innovations Kinky Beaver rigged on a 5/0 hook, paired with a 1.25-ounce weight. His two largest bass weighed 10.26 pounds and 10.06 pounds, respectively.

Charlie Harrellson was the next closest competitor to Foster, catching a 15.62-pound, five-bass limit. John Barrow weighed a 15.03-pound, five-bass limit to finish in third place. Craig Cavanna anchored his 13.18-pound, five-bass limit with a 7.14-pounder, followed by Jimmie Murphy who finished in fifth place with 12.12 pounds.

The Toho Marine Elite One Man Tour’s next stop is scheduled for July 11th at Camp Mack.
