Kitajima Rides Momentum into XBS: Toho Qualifier

The Kissimmee Chain of Lakes has been steadily producing stringers of 20+ lbs. lately. Some anglers have eclipsed that barrier though, with few bags over 25 lbs. being caught. 12 teams fishing the Xtreme Bass Series: Toho Division launched from Lake Toho Resort on Sunday August 24th in search of a 25+ lb. bag.

Kazuki Kitajima and teammate Yushi Tateyama were able to accomplish that task. They weighed in a massive 28.80-lb., 5 bass limit to win the event. Anchoring their bag was an 8.94-lb. lunker that also won the event’s Big Bass award. Kitajima came into this event fresh off a 2nd place finish in the Toho Marine Elite One Man tournament on Lake Okeechobee the day prior.

With a game plan already in mind, Kitajima and Tateyama wasted no time. Taking a run and gun approach, they hit key spots casting worms. They had all their fish in the livewell by 10:00 am.

Jim Miller and Matt Hinman finished in 2nd place. They weighed in a 21.44-lb., 5 bass limit. Their bag was anchored by an 8.72-lb. lunker.

Jeremy Smith and Jim Folks rounded out the Top 3 with an 18.50-lb., 5 bass limit.

The next event for anglers fishing the XBS: Toho Division is scheduled for Saturday, September 27th. This will be the 9th and final event of the 2014 season for anglers competing towards qualifying for the 2014 Championship. At this year’s championship on Lake Seminole, qualifying anglers will have the opportunity to fish for a brand new Ranger Z119 powered by a 200HP Evinrude outboard. To qualify, anglers must fish 7 events in one division, or 8 events total of all divisions. More information on the next event can be found on the Event Calendar.
