McMillan Takes Over Southern Open Lead

When fishing a multi-day event in Florida, consistency is key, especially this time of the year when cold fronts are notorious for pushing through just before, or during an event. The sudden change in weather, no matter how slight, can change the bite for better, or worse.

Day 1 leader Andrew Slegona experienced the latter of the two scenarios. After catching a massive 31-02 limit on day 1, he followed up day 2 with a 3-07, 2 fish bag. Slegona is still in contention though. He sits in 4th place with a 34-09 total.

Brandon McMillian grabbed the tournament lead on the 2nd day of competition with a 38-08, 2-day total. His 13-15 limit on day 2 moved McMillian up from 3rd place to the top spot on the leaderboard.

Slegona and McMillian were the only anglers from the day 1 standings to stay within the Top 5. Todd Auten moved up from 13th to 2nd (36-08). Bobby Lane caught the day’s Big Bass, a 9-08 lunker. That fish helped Lane jump from 18th to 3rd (34-13), and Gerald Swindle moved from 17th to 5th (34-3).

The Top 5 are separated by less than 5 pounds. Brad Knight, who sits in 12th place, trails McMillan by less than 10 pounds. Unlike day 1, there was not a bag weighed over 21 pounds yesterday. Don’t be surprised if the weights among the Top 12 jump back to the mid-20’s today.

Alan Angoli took over the lead in the Co-angler division with his 17-11 day 2 bag. A 9-06 anchored his bag, earned the day’s Big Bass award, and helped to raise his total weight to 24-15.

Steven Jarrett moved up one spot to 2nd (18-02), Robbie Anderson moved up to 3rd (17-13), Terry Law jumped up to 4th (17-10), and day 1 leader Daniel Lanier fell to 5th (17-9).

The Top 12 Pro’s and Co-anglers will take off from the launch site at Kissimmee Lakefront Park at 7:00 this morning. Weigh-in will start at 4:00 pm at Bass Pro Shops in Orlando.
