Morgan, Dorland top Marion County field

Weights were low at Johns Lake for the Marion County Bassmasters, a division of the Florida Bass Nation, during their tournament held June 13th. The club had 17 teams compete in their eighth event of the season. The 2,400 acre lake has been known to produce heavy bass in the past, but they seemed to elude the anglers.

Tom Morgan and Chad Dorland didn’t need to catch any giants to finish atop the leaderboard however, their 13.81-pound, five-bass limit was more than enough to win the event. Club President Daniel Tillis reported that Morgan and Dorland flipped their way to victory. Greg and Mike Crumpton weighed a 12.30-pound, five-bass limit to finish the day in second place. Third place was awarded to Jeff Davis and Kevin Murrell as they weighed a 10.82-pound, five-bass limit. Daniel and Russell Tillis finished in fourth place with 10.32 pounds. They also won the Big Bass honor for their 5.76-pound kicker. George Scott and Don Story secured the final spot within the Top 5 with 9.88 pounds.

The Marion County Bassmasters is a registered organization for the 2016 Florida State Team Championship. The Top 4 teams at the end of the season, in Team of the Year standings, will be invited to compete for a brand new Blazer 595 Pro Elite, powered by a 200 HP Mercury Pro XS.

The club is set to meet this Friday, July 3rd at Gander Mountain in Ocala. Their next event is scheduled for July 11th at Rodman Reservoir.
