Oakley Big Bass Comes Back to Florida

The 2015 Oakley Big Bass Tour opens their 6th tour season at the Harris Chain of Lakes, February 28th-March 1st. The unique format allows anglers to weigh their largest bass every hour for a chance at 8 hourly cash prizes, up to $1,000.00 per hour. The 2-day event boasts an hourly prize payout totaling $36,750.00, with the overall Big Bass winner being awarded a $30,000.00 Nitro Z7 powered by a Mercury 150HP ProXS.

You can choose to only fish one of the days by covering the $110.00 per angler entry fee, or $160.00 per angler for both days of competition. The tournament series is open to amateur anglers only, and anglers can fish up to 3 individuals per boat. Registration closes at midnight the day before the tournament begins, meaning you must pre-register. There will be an onsite registration at the weigh-in site Friday, February 27th from 3-7 PM at Hickory Point Recreational Facility.

With 7 hourly payouts per day, competing anglers will have an opportunity for a part of the $2,625.00 per hour payout. There is a little strategy sometimes involved in this event, creating for a unique tournament experience.

For example:

Angler A can weigh a fish within the first hour of competition that weighs 3.01 pounds. That may not be one of the Top 8 fish weighed for the first hour, resulting in that angler not placing within that particular hour. But, in the 2nd hour, Angler B may have weighed the 8th largest bass at only 2.95 pounds. Since Angler A weighed his fish during the first hour, it doesn’t carry over to the 2nd hour, resulting in Angler B to be awarded one of the hourly prizes. Bass entered in the big bass of the hour do not carry forward from hour to hour. No angler is allowed to weigh more than one bass per hour.

The 2015 series begins in Florida, and from there will travel to Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Alabama. Established in 2010, the Oakley Big Bass Tour is focused on the promotion of bass fishing and bass conservation at the grass roots level through their tournament events.
