Osinga boats lunker to win at Big O

The Lake Worth Boynton Beach Bassmasters set back out on Lake Okeechobee for their ninth event of the season on June 21st. Scott Osinga topped the boater division with a 15.69-pound, five-bass limit. Osinga anchored his winning bag with the Big Bass of the event, an 8.40-pound TrophyCatch. Osinga stated he struggled for bites the first part of the day, only catching a small limit in which he estimated at weighing around 8-1/2 pounds. After moving around to a few other areas, he ran back to the King’s Bar area where he started his day.

“I started pitching the inside scattered buggywhips,” stated Osinga. “I had gotten a few bites earlier in the day doing the same thing around scattered, loose clumps.”

After fishing the area for 30 minutes, Osinga stuck his big bass. The lunker fell victim to a 1-oz. black/blue Medlock Double Weed Guard jig paired with a black/blue beaver style bait. Osinga hauled her in with an 8-foot Witch Doctor Tackle X80 Nano prototype rod and 65-lb. braid.

Dave Wise finished in second place with a 12.23-pound, five-bass limit, followed by Jake Whitman in third place with 10.43 pounds.

Bill Wood bested the co-angler division with a 10.13-pound, five-bass limit. Michael Tracy finished in second place with a 9.82-pound, five-bass limit, followed by Junior Iriban in third with 8.65 pounds.

The Lake Worth-Boynton Beach Bassmasters is a FLW Federated Pro/Am draw club. They belong to the Bass Federation and the Florida Bass Federation. They have also registered for the 2016 Florida State Team Championship. The Top 4 boaters and the Top 4 co-anglers at the end of the season, based on angler of the year standings, will be invited to team up and compete for a Blazer 595 Pro Elite powered by a 200 HP Mercury Pro XS.

Located in Palm Beach County, the Lake Worth-Boynton Beach Bassmasters meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month at Hurricane Grill and Wings in Wellington, FL. Their next event is scheduled for this Sunday, July 19th, at Lock 7 at Lake Okeechobee.
