Stahl tops Co-angler field

25 Jan 2014

OKEECHOBEE-Brian Stahl of Land O’ Lakes, FL started the 2014 season off in the right direction by winning the Co-angler division of the ABA Weekend Series on Lake Okeechobee. Fishing with Trevor Brown of Deltona, FL, Stahl caught a 3 bass limit weighing 11.38 pounds. His 4.68 pound kicker helped to secure the win and $1,123.

“My bites were few and far between. I caught 2 of my fish on a swim jig. My 3rd fish was caught punching a mat with Gambler’s new Why Not paired with a 2-ounce tungsten weight.” Stahl stated he had to soak the bait in the mat for a long time before the fish bit.

Tom Mullins of Windermere, FL took 2nd place with a 3 bass limit that weighed 7.98 pounds. Mullins, who was paired with Bull Fugate, of Kissimmee, FL, flipped mats all day long to catch his fish and net $374 for the day.

Mike Wisnewski of Melbourne, FL rounded out the top 3 Co-anglers with a 3 bass limit for 7.50 pounds. Wisnewski, who was paired with Todd Hamilton of Sarasota, FL, caught his fish throwing a Zoom 8″ worm in Junebug color.

“This was my first tournament back in many years due to family obligations,” stated Wisnewski. “I fished really hard, just kept hammering away and never gave up.”

Cecil Hock of Valrico, FL caught the Co-angler division’s Big Bass. The lunker weighed 6.88 pounds.

“The big fish hit a lipless crankbait,” Hock explained. “At about 2pm, the water warmed up. I only had 2 bites all day.”
