Starling, Wooley Win XBS Suwannee Opener

The Xtreme Bass Series Suwannee River Division held it’s first event of the 2015 season on January 18th. 28 teams set out from Ellie Ray’s RV Resort, perched on the shores of the Santa Fe River; a waterway that feeds into the Suwannee.

Walter Starling and Damon Wooley started their season heading the right direction, by bringing an 18.79-pound bag to the scales. Their winning catch was one bass shy of a tournament limit, but was anchored by an 8.76-pound lunker. That fish helped to secure the win, Big Bass award, and $1,320.00.

Joey Wood and Lee Kitchens caught a 14.36-pound, 5 bass limit to claim second place and $580.00. Third place, and the $360.00 prize, was awarded to Bryant and Dempsey Allen for their 11.78-pound, 3 bass bag. Gary Ward and Matt Cummings rounded out the Top 4 with an 8.32-pound, 3 bass bag worth $260.00.

With 9 events in each division, anglers competing in XBS events can qualify for the 2015 Championship at Lake Okeechobee, November 5-7, 2015. At this years championship, qualifying anglers will have the opportunity to fish for a brand new Blazer 595 Pro Elite, powered by a 200 HP outboard. To qualify, anglers must fish 7 of the 9 events in one division, or 8 events total from all divisions combined. Teams who finish in the Top 4 of their division will also be invited to compete in the 2016 Florida State Team Championship, where teams of anglers from various organizations across the state, will have the opportunity to compete for another Blazer 595 Pro Elite powered by a 200 HP outboard.
