Test the Best Forget the Rest

Day 2 weights weren’t quite as big as day one but not disappointing by any means. John and George Wood started it off with 25.10lbs taking their day 2 totals to 52.05lbs (4th overall). That held for about ¾ of the weigh in and then it got exciting. Billy Jackson Sr and Jr brought in 22.81lbs rounding out their total to 45.21lbs, which put them in 5th place, which is awesome due to the fact that they never had been on that body of water in their life until this week. Day one 2nd place finishers, Mike and Dennis Brucker, brought in an impressive 25.07lbs boosting them to 3rd place overall. Then the real excitement began. Scott Bradley and Dan Blanchard who sat in 8th place on day one brought in a bag of fish that took 2 people to lift to the scales. When the dust settled the display read 36.61lbs. which boosted them to 1st place for a total of 60.82lbs. What a comeback!! But wait Gary and James, day one leaders, were yet to come up. James handed me the bag, with Gary not wanting to watch, and it felt a little light. They needed a total of 25.51 to take the lead and the top spot for the 2011 Xtreme Championship. I put the fish on the scales and it settled down to read 26.02lbs. You could hear Gary breathe a sigh of relief all across Okeechobee County. What a finale, Gary and James held the lead wire to wire and it paid off to the tune of $15,000.00 in their pocket. I couldn’t have scripted a better ending. Scott and Dan ended up in second place but it also included day 2 big bass honors with an 8.68lber. Second big fish for day 2 went to Mike and Dennis Brucker with a 7.41lber. I am still trying to wrap my head around all those big fish. What an amazing site to have seen. Lake Okeechobee is back in a big way. Let’s just hope the water levels hold.
