Morfis dominates BFL field, Rudolph tops co-anglers

The fourth Walmart BFL Gator Division event is in the books, as 168 boaters and c0-anglers competed on April 18th at Lake Okeechobee. Joshua Morfis dominated the boater division, weighing a 34 pound, 14 ounce, 5 bass limit.

“I flipped the Kissimmee grass and bulrushes where the fish were sitting in 4 to 5 feet of water,” Morfis said. “I used a green pumpkin-colored Gambler Ugly Otter with a black and blue-colored Eco Pro Honey Badger Punch Skirt.”

Donny Bass finished in second place, weighing a solid 28 pound, 3 ounce limit. Justin Morgan weighed a 25 pound, 9 ounce limit to finish in third place. Fourth place was claimed by Greg Hughes for his 23-pound, 15 ounce limit. Terry Oliver earned the final spot in the Top 5 with a 21-pound, 9 ounce limit.

Jessey Rudolph smashed a 21 pound, 8 ounce, 5 bass limit from the back of the boat to win the co-angler title. Rudolph attributed his win to a 3/8-ounce swim jig, paired with a Gambler Bait’s Big EZ as a trailer, along with his custom built MB-904MHX rod to pull the fish from heavy cover.

“That rod is perfect for throwing bigger baits, and has plenty of back bone to pull the pigs out of thickest of cover,” stated Rudolph on his Facebook page.

Phillip Ford finished in second place, weighing a respectable 17 pound, 10 ounce limit. Scott Kirsch finished in third place, weighing a 17 pound, 3 ounce bag. Jose Luis Gallardo claimed a fourth place finish, weighing a 15 pound, 12 ounce limit. Nick Ahearn rounded out the Top 5 co-angers with a 15 pound, 9 ounce bag.

The Walmart BFL Gator division’s next event is scheduled for August 29th at Lake Okeechobee.
