Yohn Wins Elite One Man on Kissimmee

In the world of tournament bass fishing, anglers aspire to separate themselves from the rest of the crowd. To sit atop the leaderboard, knowing you were better than everyone else that day is a feeling like none other. Doing well and winning a team tournament with your buddy is one thing. You and your partner can help land fish, cover more water, or talk about where to move for the next spot. But to win an event on your own, without anyone else’s help, is one of the most satisfying moments a tournament angler can experience.

On July 19th, 35 anglers fishing the Toho Marine Elite One Man Tournament Trail, launched out of Camp Mack with the goal of being the best on the Kissimmee Chain that day. If you’ve fished tournaments long enough, you know you’ll have your high’s, your low’s, and most of the time you’ll land somewhere in the middle. Then you have the anglers that somehow always seem to find their way to the top of the pack.

Wayne Yohn is one of those anglers, and today would be no different. Yohn has fished the Kissimmee chain for years, and is touted to be one of the best anglers on the chain. He bested the 35-boat field last Saturday, bringing a 27.95-pound, 5 bass limit to the Camp Mack weigh-in stage. A 7.80-pound kicker anchored his limit, and proved to be the deciding factor in his win, giving him a $1,150.00 payday.

Randy Johnson finished in 2nd place with a 21.45-pound, 5 bass limit. Johnson earned $530.00 for the day.

Jim “J.W.” Watkins finished in 3rd place, weighing a 17.35-pound, 5 bass limit, earning him $265.00.

Eddy Mills finished in 4th place, bringing 4 bass to the scales that weighed 17.15 pounds. Mills won $160.00 for the event.

Don Eady rounded out the top 5 weighing a 15.55-pound, 5 bass limit. Eady took home $120 for 5th place.

Joe Clements only caught one fish during the tournament, but he made it count. Clements weighed in a giant 10.15-pound bass to win the Big Bass award, and $310.00.

Rich Howes weighed an 8.95-pound lunker to win the 2nd Big Bass award, and $155.00.

The next event for Elite One Man anglers is scheduled for August 23rd on Lake Okeechobee, launching out of Scott Driver Park. This will be the final event of the season before the trail’s end of season classic. That event will be held on Lake Toho, launching out of Red’s Fish Camp, November 7th and 8th.
