Conant, Foster Win XBS Istokpoga Opener

The Xtreme Bass Series: Lake Istokpoga Division launched from Istokpoga Park on February 1st to begin the divisions 2015 season.

Located in the southern region of the state, Lake Istokpoga is arguably home to the meanest bass Florida has to offer. But when cold front winds blow, anglers often struggle as the Florida largemouths typically shut down.

The team of Eric Conant and Michael Foster were able to best the weather, and the 16 boat field. Their 17.38-pound, 5 bass limit gave the team the first win of the season. John Saleeba and Kim Summerfield finished in 2nd place, weighing a 15.71-pound limit. Brian Reeves and Tony Larsen rounded out the Top 3, setting a 14.79-pound limit on the scales.

Big Bass of the tournament was awarded to Will Benion and Mark Slapczynski for their 6.15-pound kicker.

With 9 events in each division, anglers competing in XBS events can qualify for the 2015 Championship at Lake Okeechobee, November 5-7, 2015. At this years championship, qualifying anglers will have the opportunity to fish for a brand new Blazer 595 Pro Elite, powered by a 200 HP outboard. To qualify, anglers must fish 7 of the 9 events in one division, or 8 events total from all divisions combined. Teams who finish in the Top 4 of their division will also be invited to compete in the 2016 Florida State Team Championship, where teams of anglers from various organizations across the state, will have the opportunity to compete for another Blazer 595 Pro Elite powered by a 200 HP outboard.

The next tournament for the XBS: Lake Istokpoga Division is scheduled for March 1st, launching from Istokpoga Park. More information on this event can be found on the Event Calendar.
