Cook, Allen Earn Early Season Victory on Rodman

The Rodman Reservoir has been the topic of debate lately, but that hasn’t stopped anglers form enjoying one of Florida’s top ecosystems. On February 7th, 22 teams of anglers set out in search of the giant largemouths the reservoir is known for, in the first event for the Xtreme Bass Series: Rodman Division.

At the end of the day, no monsters were brought to the scales, but Lawrence Cook and Bobby Allen were able to piece together a 17.78-pound, 5 bass limit to win the first event of the season, and $900.00. Richie Barnes and Chuck Foster brought a 15.68-pound limit to the scales to finish in second place, worth $680.00. The team anchored their bag with a 5.85-pound kicker that won the Big Bass award, and an additional $220.00.

Johnny Key and Justin Bennett finished in 3rd place, winning $240.00 on a 13.90-pound limit. Mike and Randall Boyette caught a 12.94-pound limit to finish in 4th place, and take the final check, worth $160.00.

With 9 events in each division, anglers competing in XBS events can qualify for the 2015 Championship at Lake Okeechobee, November 5-7, 2015. At this years championship, qualifying anglers will have the opportunity to fish for a brand new Blazer 595 Pro Elite, powered by a 200 HP outboard. To qualify, anglers must fish 7 of the 9 events in one division, or 8 events total from all divisions combined. Teams who finish in the Top 4 of their division will also be invited to compete in the 2016 Florida State Team Championship, where teams of anglers from various organizations across the state, will have the opportunity to compete for another Blazer 595 Pro Elite powered by a 200 HP outboard.

The next event for the XBS: Rodman Division is scheduled for March 7th, launching from the Kenwood Boat Ramp. More information on this event can be found on the Event Calendar.
