Harcourt Handles Harris

10.Mar.2014

Land O Lakes, FL- Sebastian, FL.’s Dean Harcourt got the best of 63 other boaters this past Saturday, fishing the American Bass Anglers Weekend Bass Series event out of the Harris Chain of Lakes.  Harcourt started out fishing Lake Harris, keying in on pad stems with a Junebug Trick Worm.   After finishing his limit, he made a move to Little Lake Harris, where he keyed on the same pattern. Harcourt attributes his win to the help of his Co-Angler partner for the day, Terry Free of Mt. Dora, FL.  Free helped key Harcourt on a few other areas they could duplicate their pattern. It paid off for Harcourt, who edged out the win over Tavares, FL.’s Kent Smart by 3/100 of a pound. Harcourt’s 5 bass weighed 18.50 pounds, and was anchored by a 5.01 kicker. For his victory, Harcourt took home a check worth $2,580.00.

Kent Smart, finishing 2nd, brought a 5 bass limit to the scales that weighed 18.47 pounds, anchored by an 8.72 lunker. That fish also netted Smart the boater division’s Big Bass honor. Smart caught his fish out of Lake Dora, flipping a junebug blue craw, in and around grass. The run to Lake Dora paid off with a 2nd place check worth $1,246.00, and a Big Bass check for $157.00.

Keith Carson of DeBary, FL., took the 3rd spot in the boater division by bringing in a 17.29 pound 5 bass limit. Carson also made the run to Lake Dora, where he targeted spawning fish by flipping buggy whips. He alternated between a Speed Craw and a black/blue beaver to catch his fish. Carson stated he lost one fish, which he estimated at weighing around 3 pounds. That fish “might have won it for me”, Carson stated. For 3rd place, won $876.00.

Fred Rigdon, of Belleview, FL., finished in 4th place, weighing in a 5 bass limit for 16.40 pounds.

Cody Detweiler, of Orlando, FL., rounded out the top 5 with 4 bass, that weighed 15.35 pounds. Detweiler also moved into the points lead after 2 events.

The 3rd event for the ABA Weekend Bass Series will be held April 5th out of Lake Toho. More information about the event can be found here https://floridatournamentreport.com/event/weekend-bass-series-lake-toho
