Local Youth Tops Co-Angler Division

Land O Lakes, FL- Kyle Jones, of Leesburg, FL., bested 61 other co-angler competitors in the 2nd event of the ABA Weekend Bass Series, out of the Harris Chain, on March 8th. Fishing with boater Casey Gonzalez, of Brandon, FL., the 16 year old Jones caught a co-angler limit of 3 bass, weighing 18.06 pounds. Gonzalez and Jones fished Lake Griffin for the day. Throwing a Rat-L-Trap, Jones stated he caught his first fish, a 5-1/2 pound bass, on his 5th cast of the morning.  He continued to upgrade his limit from there, anchoring his limit with a 7.58 lunker. That fish anchored the win for Jones, and also won Big Bass honors in the co-angler division. Jones won $1,295.00 for 1st place, and $76.00 for Big Bass.

Billy Brokaw of Haines City, FL. finished in 2nd place, weighing 3 bass for 16.83 pounds. His limit was anchored by a 7.05 pound kicker. Brokaw stated he and his boater stayed on Lake Harris, “I caught my fish on a 10-inch redbug worm. I caught two other fish on a Rat-L-Trap.” Brokaw won $636.00 for the runner up spot.

In 3rd place was Sawyer Dukes of Ocala, FL. Sawyer brought in 3 bass weighing 9.15 pounds, for which he earned $424.00. Sawyer and his boater ran to Lake Griffin to start the day out. Sawyer caught his first 3 fish “throwing flukes”. He had a limit by 11:00 a.m.  “At about 1 p.m., we went to Lake Eustis and I caught two better fish on a chrome Rat-L-Trap,” Sawyer stated.

Steven Jones, of Ocala, FL., finished in 4th place, weighing a 3 bass limit for 7.98 pounds

August Carnahan, of Celebration, FL., rounded out the top 5 with 3 bass that weighed 7.39 pounds. Carnahan also took over the points lead after 2 events.
