Kade Suratt of Lawrenceburg, TN is $50,000.00 richer after winning the Inagural Minn Kota Owners Tournament held on Pickwick Lake June 3rd and 4th. Unlike traditional bass fishing tournaments where anglers weigh in five bass at the end of the day, the Minn Kota Owners Tournament provides amateur anglers from all skill levels the opportunity to win multiple cash payouts each day during the hourly weigh-ins. Each tournament day featured seven hourly weigh-ins that paid ten cash payouts each hour.

The 19 year old Suratt bested a field of more than 800 anglers over two days of competition to take home the victory. He did so with a 7.41 pound largemouth he weighed on day two during the 10:00-11:00 hour. He caught the winning fish while fishing with his father Johnny Suratt and family friend Trent Caperton. Up to three anglers were allowed to be in a boat during the event so long as each person in the boat was a paid contestant.
“It was a slow day at first, until we pulled up on a submerged brush pile where we have caught a bunch of big ones before,” explained Suratt. “We hit spot lock and it was my first cast. I set the hook on him and immediately told dad I had the winning fish or a catfish on.”
Suratt used a 1/2 ounce shakey head with a green pumpkin Zoom Magnum Trick Worm to catch his winning fish.
It was about 8:30 when Suratt caught the winning fish, but being more than 30 miles up river from the weigh-in site, they “took (their) time coming in to make sure (they) didn’t beat him up too bad in the livewell.”
Each hourly weigh-in awarded cash payouts to the top ten biggest bass each hour as follows:
- 1ST: $1,000.00
- 2ND: $500.00
- 3RD: $300.00
- 4TH: $250.00
- 5TH: $225.00
- 6TH: $200.00
- 7TH: $175.00
- 8TH: $150.00
- 9TH: $125.00
- 10TH: $100.00
Guaranteed Hourly Payouts were $21,175 per day.
