Maltby, Petty Secure Points Title with Win

In their final event prior to their end of season classic, 19 teams form the West Volusia Bass Anglers set out from Mullet Lake Park at a time of the year when big females are brought across tournament scales with regularity.

Larry Maltby and Larry Petty found one of those Trophy Catch quality bass in the 8.53-pound lunker they brought to the weigh-in on February 14th. That fish anchored their 20.71-pound, 5 bass limit, earning the team a first place finish as well as the Big Bass award.

Gary Thompson and Buddy Cohrs finished in second place, weighing a 17.08-pound limit. Third place was claimed by Art Hill and Jerry Anderson, as they brought a 16.01-pound limit to the scales. Glenn Paulson and Jesse Lane took the last money spot in 4th place, weighing a 12.87-pound limit.

With this event being the final qualifying event of the season, the Team of the Year race came to a close. Larry Maltby and Larry Petty secured the points title with their third win of the season, beating out Gary Thompson and Buddy Cohrs by more than 27 pounds throughout the year.

The West Volusia Bass Anglers will begin a new season April 18th-19th at Lake Istokpoga, launching from Henderson’s Fish Camp. More information on this event can be found on the Event Calendar.
